If you used to be a member of the homeless population in London, you will naturally relate to all of the fears and stresses that the homeless Londoners of today regularly experience. Research has indicated that the homeless often suffer from diminished self esteem and aspiration as a result of their time on the streets, and run a greater risk of picking up life threatening diseases.
Your own time spent sleeping rough on the streets should certainly give you a large amount of empathy for these people. In which case, would you be interested in joining the staff at London-based homeless charity St Mungo’s? Our work routinely involves endeavouring to decrease the homeless population of London, through taking homeless people off the streets, having their health problems addressed, and giving them the necessary training and development to get a decent job and more permanent accommodation than our shelters and hostels.
If you would like to help us with this vital work, then you should seriously consider applying for the St Mungo’s Apprenticeship Scheme. It is open to anyone based in London who has previously suffered from homelessness, and intends to equip people like this with the necessary skills and experience to work within the homeless sector. It is also a great way of us involving clients in our work, and improving our services that aid the recovery of the homeless.
Through the St Mungo’s website, you can apply for this scheme, after finding out more about previous applicants and the requirements for success. Good luck!
